How can YOU manage headaches?

Headaches are one of the most common health complaints you will hear from people you know and we’ve all had one at some point!

They can affect our daily life, making it hard to concentrate.

However did you know that there any many different types and causes of headaches? Rarely, they can be serious, however the majority of the time they are very treatable and very preventable.

Of all the different types of headaches the most common are tension type headaches. These are so common that people call them “normal headaches”. These are usually felt towards the back, front or side of the head and even behind the eyes and can occur anywhere from once a day to once a month. However, these type of headaches aren’t normal and you don’t have to put up with them!

They are usually brought on through poor posture and stress. Poor posture may come from a long period of sitting, using our phones/tablet or long drives. Pro-longed poor posture creates tension in the neck, and over a long period, if nothing is done about it, it is clear to see why our neck can no longer deal with the extra load on the neck. The joints and muscles in the neck then start to refer pain to other places.

The most common way of managing these headaches is by taking painkillers such as paracetamol and ibuprofen. However painkillers just mask the symptoms and don’t address the underlying issue usually leading to the headaches reoccurring.

Upon visiting a chiropractor we would be able to tell you the type of headache you are experiencing and the cause of it. We will then be able to tell you the best way to treat, manage and prevent your headaches to ensure they do not keep reoccurring.
