Stay connected with friends and family

Life under lockdown has put a pause on our once busy social lives and we are unable to visit friends or family. But, we live in a completely digitalised world and it’s easier than ever to spend quality time with our loved ones, even if we can’t physically be there with them.

In times like this, we must support one another and show compassion to those who need it. This is a shared experience that’s stressful for everyone and we don’t know how long it’s going to go on for. Use your phone, computer or tablet to gather a group of people on a Friday night to play some games and have a much needed catch up.

Video chat

With restaurants and bars closed, people won’t be meeting their friends and family members for some weeks. However, video chat is the next best thing and it makes it so easy to stay in contact with loved ones.

Facetime, Skype, Zoom or WhatsApp are only a few of the video calling platforms that you can use to keep face-to-face contact, even if it’s for 15 minutes a day.

Virtual pub quiz

Those who are missing the occasional outing to their local pub on a Friday night could still easily recreate the same vibe at home. It is as simple as setting up a video call to catch up with our friends over a drink. Make it even more fun by running your own pub quiz among yourselves or join in virtual quizzes being ran by actual pubs on YouTube, Facebook and Instagram.

Apps

Take full advantage of apps while you’re in self-isolation as they can help you to stay connected to each other. HouseParty is a popular face-to-face social networking app which allows you to communicate and have fun, you can even play a variety of games with your friends in the app.

So, dress up, head to your living room and get the party started.

Online gaming

If you are looking to connect with friends online, gaming could be the answer. Whether you are on mobile, PC, Xbox or PlayStation, there’s an online game for you that lets you communicate with your friends all day and all night.

Download scrabble on your phone, play Animal Crossing on your Nintendo or go full gamer with Call of Duty. Explore your options and see what creative way works best for you and your friends.

Social Media

For some people, social media may be a space that makes them a little bit more nervous about the current COVID-19 situation. If this is the case for you, we wouldn’t recommend this suggestion, try the other ways instead.

Nevertheless, we still believe social media can be a very powerful space for the people who are feeling lonely. There are various viral challenges that you can partake in, such as toilet roll keepy-ups, fitness challenges, babyface challenges and many more. These types of challenges will keep you safe and entertained at home, remind you that we are all in this together and it’ll allow you to feel part of a wider community.

Join an online class or club

Businesses, comedians, artists and musicians are all sharing their interests online with others, streaming live content and posting free tips and tricks.

Borough Market in London is streaming live cookery classes, while Strictly Come Dancing pro-Dianne Buswell is running dance tutorials on her YouTube channel. Try something new and get involved with online classes or clubs that are guaranteed to keep you company.
