Willow Chiropractic - helping runners perform their best in The Great Bristol Half Marathon

September is upon us heralding for many the end of the summer holidays and a return to more familiar routines such as school, work and possibly regular sports training. It’s not that we stop all sporting activities over the summer, it’s just the pattern is often disrupted. So it can be good to get back to regular visits to the gym, swimming, cycling or perhaps running.  

At Willow Chiropractic we are passionate about helping patients achieve the best possible physical health; maintaining a healthy body enhances your long-term physical wellbeing, enabling you to live your life to the full. We encourage patients to build some form of regular activity into their routine. This may be something as simple as a daily walk or it may be training to run a marathon. In fact, many of our patients become inspired to set themselves a personal goal and use chiropractic care to support them in their preparation and training for the event, as well as to help speed recovery afterwards.  

It’s good to have a goal to work towards; it focusses our attention, gives us a purpose, allows us to plan a schedule and work towards that fixed date; it also allows us to measure and celebrate our achievements. Perhaps you have been inspired by the brilliant performances of Team GB at the 2016 Rio Olympics to get out there and take part in a sporting event – to push yourself to be the best you can be. If so there are plenty of events for you to take part in.

The Great Bristol Half Marathon

A well loved, landmark running event, The Great Bristol Half Marathon (formerly the Bristol Half Marathon), takes place in Bristol on 25th of September. First staged in 1989 this is now a key date in the national running calendar and over 10,000 runners take part every year. The course starts and finishes in Bristol's historic Harbourside and the route takes runners past the Harbourside, out and back along the Portway, through the Avon Gorge, under Brunel’s famous Clifton Suspension Bridge, along Cumberland Road then around the old city before returning to Anchor Road. It is all at sea level and relatively flat making this a popular event for runners of many different levels of fitness. 

Chiropractic helps you be the best you can be

Many people will have been training over the past months to take part in The Great Bristol Half Marathon - it's not advisable to undertake a 13 mile run without training and preparation as well as a fair level of fitness. That said, a person who is fit and well, and who undertakes regular distance running could take part. Two members of our team did just that - completing the course with ease! They practise what they preach and have regular chiropractic treatments, as well as making healthy eating and regular exercise part of their lifestyle.

Chiropractic care is used by many top athletes to help them prepare for a major sporting event. Usain Bolt, the fastest man the world has ever seen, famously uses chiropractic to keep him in top form and functioning at his best, as well as to recover after a race. He says; "I don't always win gold medals but when I do I get adjusted first". 

Many of our patients have had treatment to help them get over an injury or to prepare for a major event. Matt, a patient at Willow’s Bedminster clinic, was having trouble running because of problems with his knees. Where other treatments had failed to help, chiropractic care got him sorted and back up and running regularly.
