Sciatica

The Sciatic Nerve

The sciatic nerve runs from the back of your pelvis, through your buttocks, and down both of your legs, stopping in your feet. The sciatic nerve is the longest in the human body.

Symptoms of Sciatica

Compressing or irritating the sciatic nerve can cause pain, tingling and numbness to radiate from your lower back into your buttocks, groin and one or both legs. It can be extremely painful. Sneezing, coughing, or sitting for long periods can increase the pain. Some people will also experience muscle weakness and numbness in the affected leg.

What causes Sciatica?

One of the most common causes of sciatica is a herniated or “slipped” disc. This is where one of the discs that sit between the vertebrae bulges out and presses on the lumbar nerves in the lower back.

Other less common causes include spinal stenosis, a narrowing of the nerve passages in the spine. A spinal injury or infection, or a growth within the spine. These can all be potentially serious and urgent medical attention may be required.

Treating Sciatica

Have you ever had leg or buttock pain before? Do you have a previous back injury? If you answer yes to any of these questions, a bad problem may be causing your sciatica.

If your spine is not able to move correctly with full mobility, the stiffness in your spine could irritate and compress the sciatic nerve.

Chiropractic adjustments can realign the spine to get it fully functioning again, freeing the nerves. Chiropractic adjustments have huge success with lower back pain and sciatica. Often, it is a long-term issue, that is why we recommend that you see one of our specialists, so they can examine your spine and discuss what is best for you.

Willow Chiropractic - specialists in relieving sciatica

Do you suffer from pain in the side of your buttock? Does the pain radiate down into your leg? If so, you may be suffering from sciatica. Sciatica can come and go, or it can be constant and incapacitating. Sitting for long periods tends to increase the pain. Some people also experience muscle weakness and numbness in their affected leg.

So many people just take painkillers to relieve sciatica. That's what a lot of our patients did before coming to us, now they are pain-free and have stayed that way. Chiropractic treatment is extremely effective for relieving back pain and sciatica. One patient, Bill, said; "I am now moving freely with little to no pain, I am much more active, and my life has improved exponentially".

Our expert Chiropractors can help you

At Willow Chiropractic, we use the latest diagnostics to get to the source of your pain and carry out an in-depth consultation about your health and well-being. This includes a complete neuromuscular and chiropractic analysis that looks at your posture, your spine, and other painful areas to pinpoint where your problem lies. We are specialists in relieving sciatica.

Specialised x-rays may be taken if necessary, to determine whether a spinal problem is causing your pain or symptoms. The results are then discussed so that we can customize a pain relief programme for you – without resorting to surgery or drugs.

So, whatever has triggered your sciatica, don't just put up with the pain, take action.
