Happy121st Birthday Chiropractic

Last Sunday, the 18th of September, marked the 121st birthday of chiropractic. On that day in 1895 Daniel David Palmer, a healer in Davenport Iowa, gave the first chiropractic adjustment to his janitor, Harvey Lillard.

The adjustment was not given for back pain or neck pain but was delivered because Harvey Lillard had described to D.D. Palmer how he had become deaf years before after having bent down and heard a 'pop' in his back. D.D. Palmer who was used to examining bodies took a look at his spine and felt a raised lump, he decided to push on it. He pushed 3 times and following the adjustment Harvey Lillard said how he was able to hear the horses on the cobbled streets outside.

From that day, over the past 121, years chiropractic has continued to grow; following the same principle as D.D. Palmer on that day in 1895, chiropractors world wide look to help their fellow man achieve their fullest human potential. Chiropractic is not a cure for hearing but a system of removing interference within the nervous system (that controls the entire body) to allow that body to function, heal and regulate itself again.

Now, 121 years on, chiropractic is a regulated primary healthcare profession and chiropractors are trained to diagnose, treat, manage and prevent disorders of the musculoskeletal system (bones, joints, and muscles), as well as the effects these disorders can have on the nervous system and general health. At Willow Chiropractic we use a range of techniques to reduce pain, improve function and increase mobility, including hands-on manipulation of the spine.
