We all get told we probably don’t drink enough water; it’s also given as advice in so many situations… “I’ve got a cold” “make sure you drink plenty of water” ” I feel tired” “have a glass of water” “I’ve got a headache” “you’re probably dehydrated” etc. But how much is enough? A rough guide is two litres a day, but the need can vary depending on temperature and activity levels.

Drinking enough water is not just to avoid dehydration. Water quite simply has a massive part to play in how well our bodies function so should be viewed as a vital component to our health.

So why don’t we look at the benefits of drinking plenty?

Here’s what good hydration can help with;

  • detoxifies and flushes out waste
  • aids digestion
  • boosts energy levels
  • keeps skin healthy
  • manages weight
  • improves brain function.

One of the biggest reasons we tell our patients to stay hydrated is that water helps keep cartilage of joints soft and hydrated and this can help reduce pain. All cells contain water and it is absolutely essential for many chemical processes and reactions in your body. So keep hydrated and help your body work the way it wants to!
