When a patient starts their chiropractic journey with us, our main focus is to get them out of pain and moving properly again as quickly as possible. The question that often arises once they are out of pain is how to stop the problem coming back.

Many people will have heard the expression “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.” So, once you are out of pain, it’s a good idea to take stock and see what went wrong in the first place, and think about what changes you can make in the future to help prevent this happening again.

Be proactive about looking after yourself

Ultimately your health is your responsibility so it’s important to be proactive about looking after yourself, but where do you start? What causes the aches and pains that so many people suffer from? It’s a good question and in fact a lot of the problems stem from 3 major stressors that affect your health. These are:

  • Physical Stress – Trauma, poor posture, repetitive lifting, flare-ups from old injuries that all lead to reduced movement, muscle spasm and eventually pain.
  • Emotional Stress – Stress about work, family, health, and finances can all be seen as normal but have an enormous affect on your body’s ability to function well.
  • Chemical Stress – Processed foods, sugars, medication, alcohol, and smoking all add extra strain to your body reducing its ability to function at its best.

Stress has been shown not only to affect your sleep, digestion and concentration but also how you perceive and deal with pain. Chiropractic restores normal function to your spine and nervous system which allows your body to deal better with stress. So as well as dealing with the physical issues your chiropractor will also help address any other aspects that may be affecting your health, ultimately leading to a happier, healthier you!
