Why choose chiropractic over pain medication?

Many people suffer years or even decades of pain, using pain relief medication to try and continue a normal life. In the short term these drugs can be useful, however it is not a good strategy for pain management over time, and can lead to other unwanted side effects including addiction, headaches and more.

Chiropractors at willow seek out the issues that contribute to the pain and help reduce these and improve your overall functioning. We also advise on exercise, diet and strive to help build your confidence in yourself and your body. This approach can reduce pain, improve movement and help get you back to doing the things you love.

Long term (chronic) pain is due; most likely, to a sensitisation of your nervous system to a stimulus, this is then combined in your brain with past information, emotions and a myriad of other physiological (body) inputs to form the message ‘pain’. But what does that really mean? Lorimer Mosely does an excellent job of explaining this in his TEDx talk ‘Why things hurt’. In this entertaining talk he tells a story that helps explain pain, here is that story:

In conclusion, pain is a signal from your nervous system that something is wrong, medications mask this signal and do nothing to address the underlying problem. We at willow help to find the problem and deal with the issue. For more information see Liam’s post: The battle for pain relief: Chiropractic versus Medication
