Injuries, aches and pains – we all suffer from them. But have you ever wondered what causes them in the first place and whether there is anything you can do to help prevent them from happening?

Injuries tend to happen when our bodies can no longer withstand or adapt to the stress that they are being put under. It’s like bending a pencil, it can withstand the stress for only so long before it snaps, this snap is when the injury occurs.

Poor posture – a major physical stressor

Of course injury can happen when you are training or playing sport, but did you know that poor posture is a major cause of injury, aches and pains? The stress that poor posture places the body under cannot be sustained indefinitely, while it may hold up for some time it will eventually become fatigued and ‘break’. If you don’t address poor posture habits, your body will eventually fail resulting in injury and those ongoing, nagging aches and pains that so many of us suffer.

Helping your body withstand life’s stressors

Keeping fit and healthy is an excellent way of helping build resilience and ensuring that your body can withstand day to day stressors. Whatever your preferred form of exercise, tennis, football, swimming, running a marathon or simply taking plenty of regular walks, it all counts. But did you know that chiropractic treatment also helps prevent injury? In the same way that taking vitamin C helps strengthen your immune system and prevent coughs and colds, so chiropractic helps your body withstand greater levels of stress. It does this by optimising the biomechanics of the spine which in turn improves how the body functions. Many sports men and women use chiropractic to prevent injuries and to help them to be at their best, here are just a few examples:

  • Golf: Jordan Speith, Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods.
  • Tennis: Andy Murray, Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic
  • Olympics: Usain Bolt and Mo Farah
  • Body building: Arnold Schwarzenegger

Whilst we might not all be sports celebrities, we can all use chiropractic care to help withstand stress, prevent injuries and transform our health in order to be at our best.
