Setting Goals
14 May 2020
Isolation presents an opportunity to develop some invaluable goals that you may not have otherwise had time to. Whether you want to become more supple, learn how to bake or increase your fitness, these tips will inspire you to keep going!
Make an “If I had time” list
To start, make a list of everything you have been wanting to do for a while but never quite had enough time to do. This could be finishing a certain book, starting a blog, renovating your garden or learning a language. While you might not get to all of it, it’s an important first step to realise what you want to accomplish. After your list is complete, start to order the importance.
Long-term and short-term goals
It’s a good idea to break down your long-term goals into smaller ones. This will ease and simplify goals that seem too large to tackle. Of course, our daily routine is slightly altered due to lockdown. But, it’s important to include daily tasks that help you accomplish your long-term goals.
Ask yourself, what am I going to achieve this week? After figuring that out, ask yourself, what do I want to achieve this month? And so on. Having daily, weekly and monthly tasks will allow you to have the motivation to start actioning. Once you put an initial action into motion, it’s easier to progress and take the next necessary step.
Stick to schedule
It’s important to stick to a schedule during this time to increase productivity. We’ve repeated this a lot but it’s very true. People are most productive when they stick to a schedule and hold themselves accountable. Set a start and end time and schedule in breaks so you don’t end up working too much or resting for too long.
Finally, be realistic and optimistic
If you can use this time to work towards your goals, then that’s great. However, if you don’t feel particularly inspired right now, that’s okay too. Be realistic as well as optimistic and know that even with a plan and a schedule, you might not get everything you want done. Don’t worry yourself over this, you’re doing great regardless.
