How You Can Live Life to the Fullest

All of us are guilty of making up excuses as to why we can’t do activities that we love or take steps that will benefit our health and well-being.

“I don’t have time.”

“I can’t do it.”

“I’m not worth it.”

We’ve all thought this.

At Willow, we’re on a mission to change people’s mindsets, to help them live life to the fullest, healthier and happier. Sometimes, the stereotypes that exist in society influence what we believe we can and can’t do, even though this doesn’t necessarily reflect reality.

As you get older, you might feel that you can’t, or shouldn’t, do certain activities, like train for a marathon because your health declines with age. You may even be putting your day-to-day aches and pains down to getting older, or because of the work that you do. It’s true that ageing does have an impact on the body, but “I’m getting old” should never be used as an excuse to normalise your pain or the limitations you place on doing what you love.

It’s not just age that we use as an excuse. The world can be chaotic at times and our day-to-day might be packed full; we might not be able to fit in an hour-long gym session, I don’t want to spend all that money, or I can’t run 5km anymore, so I won’t.

All of these are excuses.

Shorten that gym session to 30 minutes or do a home workout, you shouldn’t question whether you spend money to improve your health, and we all have to start somewhere.

Sometimes, pain can be a genuine reason as to why you can’t do the activities that you love anymore. It can be debilitating. Pain is a sign that something in your body isn’t working as it should. If you address the problem sooner rather than later, you can go back to doing what you love. We can help with this. Chiropractic provides the body with the ability to better heal itself and work as it should.

You might be thinking that the painkillers that you are taking reduce the level of pain that you experience. Painkillers merely mask your pain without identifying what the root cause is. The result? Your pain becomes worse over time, your life becomes even more limited and your quality-of-life declines.

Shaun’s Story

I went to go about my day as I usually would, and before I knew it I had collapsed. A few weeks beforehand, I had felt a few twinges in my back. I just took painkillers and got on with life. The pain I experienced after collapsing was unlike anything I had ever experienced before; it was excruciating. I had pins and needles down my leg and I couldn’t do anything for myself.

I was taking 30 tablets a day and I still wondered whether I would ever be able to walk again. Now, after chiropractic care, my sleeping pattern is better, I have more energy than I’ve had in years, I can garden for longer, enjoy cycling and walking the dog. I feel better coming up to 60 than I did when I was 50. For me, it’s all about my well-being, keeping active and preserving myself for the future.

Life can get busy, which means sometimes you need to make an extra effort to take care of your health and well-being. Whether that’s 15 minutes to yourself to read a book, a yoga class three times a week, or attending chiropractic treatment.

Your health is worth investing time and effort into. So, the next time you come up with an excuse as to not take care of your health and well-being remember:

You do have time. You can do it. You are worth it.

Take the time to reflect on the excuses you use and how you can tackle this.
